Close Approach of 2025 QO7
#2
CNEOS has updated the close approach data for the newly discovered Apollo class NEO, 2025 QO7. Close approach is predicted on 2025-Aug-31 13:50±00:02 UT at a distance of 0.00182 AU moving with V Relative=8.18 km/sec, H=26.6 magnitude, diameter 12 m - 28 m and 'Rarity'=1. As of August 29 there is a 3 day observation arc, the Condition Code=7 and the Earth MOID=0.00115199 AU. The solution date was 2025-Aug-29 07:23:50 PDT.

Using MPC's orbital elements for 2025 August 29 0000 UT, ST4.4.11.16 Visual Pro predicts that 2025 QO7 will reach a peak brightness of 14.4 magnitude on August 31 at 0200 EDT (0600 UT) at a distance of 361k km traveling through Pegasus at 206"/minute. Close approach is now predicted (to the nearest hour) on 2025 August 31 at 1000 EDT (1400 UT) with the NEO at 15.0 magnitude traveling through Andromeda at 355"/minute, but in daylight in Columbus, Ohio.

Here's the updated Object Info dialog for 2025 QO7:

Since this NEO will pass very close, observers should follow the instructions in the "Important Thread" at the top of this forum section for instructions on downloading the latest orbital elements for this object. This will provide the most accurate position predictions for your observations. CNEOS may provide an additional update tomorrow.

Good hunting,

Phil S.
