I would like to import my observed objects from Deepsky Astronomy Software (DAS) into SkyTools 3. I have maybe 20,000 observations logged in DAS. Is there a process I can apply to get all my observations transferred?

Hello,
There is a stand-alone app that can be used to import logs here: https://www.skyhound.com/logimport.html Importing that many logs will be somewhat involved, but possible. Be sure to read the Help for instructions. Greg

Yes, Mike. I had to leave on Monday in order to get back to work on SkyTools 4 Visual. :-) Had a great time while I was there! I think I just may be attending every year, and if I can figure a way to get my 18-inch Dob there, I'll stay longer too.

We will have to meet another time. I thought I logged more observations into my DAS program than 7900. So that is a better number than 20,000. Once I get back from Okie-Tex, I'll read the import help and try to get my observations into ST. I exported my observations to a comma separated text file and an XML formatted file. I can write a program to take either data set and put it into the format that ST recognizes, based on the Help text. When I get all my observations into ST, I can migrate away from DAS. I do give many presentations to astronomy groups. In the past year, my presentations have introduced SkyTools to the audience. I have a couple of slides that talk about how I use ST now at my telescope. I have a question about how you imaged the asteroid 2015 TB145 in 2015. Can we take this discussion offline? mhotka@yahoo.com.

Hello,
The current version of the Log Import utility only works for SkyTools 3, but I will be updating it for SkyTools 4 eventually, provided there is enough interest.

Would definitely like to see this in skytools4. Just realized that it only works with skytool3 and I just upgraded to skytools4. Any other suggestions in the meantime for importing a CSV?
Thanks, Rich

That may sound like a lot of extra work, but would not really take much extra effort.

Great idea but my logs did not import into Skytools4. I used check box for "log entries" only. I also verified the data was in Skytools3 before trying the sync operation.
I read about setting up default entries to help quickly get logs entered so this will help as well for the time being. Thanks, Rich |
