Common static information
#1
Brand new user here -- just a couple of hours old... ;-)

I am expecting to end up with this installed on 3 machines in my local windows domain -- my primary desktop (where I do image processing, etc), my laptop (for planning) and my observatory computer. Granted its not difficult, just tedious, but it would be nice to have a common pool of local information -- observatory location, scopes, camera details, etc. Any way to do that (short of typing it in over and over)?

Thanks,

The answer depends on which product you are using. SkyTools 3 or SkyTools 4 Imaging?

I am using ST4-Imaging. I see from procexp that you are placing these files in ...\Documents\SkyTools 4\imaging systems and that you make a local backup of these files. Is it sufficient to just copy the *.bin files from this directory to the instances on other machines? And if not, whatever else needs to be replicated? (As an aside, I used to use folder replication but found it had problems when all instances of a program did not get concurrently updated. But with a local gigabit network it often does work to have the common data folders on the file server.)

Hello,

SkyTools 4 Imaging doesn't yet have a backup/restore/sync feature, which would be the simple way to go. It is in the works. In the meantime, what you need to do is to copy the entire contents of the "SkyTools 4" folder (in Documents) from one computer to the other, overwriting everything on the other computer. This is very important because the database forms a web of inter-dependencies.

Thanks, greg.

I had a suspicion it was going to be like that when I noticed all your data files had .bin extensions and a sequence number name. I used to do dbms internals a million years ago... looked familiar.
