iTelescope data's been updated
#1
I noticed that the iTelescope data has been updated. Thanks, Greg.

I looked at the T68(NM) scope & it has an Astrodon OIII 3nm filter, only. This scope used to have a one-shot color camera. This was the designation it was given to distinguish it when it was located in the Bathhurst site in AU several years ago.

The other T68 is listed as being at New Mexico Skies.

I was wondering which is the proper one to use going forward? Didn't they make this scope free to use for short observing runs?

T68 is actually still the same telescope, they just moved it. I added the T68 (NM) temporarily to distinguish it during the transition. Going forward, use the T68 without the NM because they updates the camera again.

But... I only uploaded the information I already had. I expressed my concerns to them that after my talk a lot of people were going to unhappy with the state of the iTelescope data, and received assurances that I would be provided updated information right away. I sent them a list of specific info, and so far they have not provided it.

Unfortunately this is the pattern: assurances they don't follow through on. Please complain to them if you find any information that doesn't fit. Even their Position Angles are unreliable. I found 3 different position angles provided for on iTelescope and when I asked they couldn't tell me which one was correct.

Hi Greg,

I just queried T68 for its info. The file is attached.

It looks like only T18 is still remaining in Spain. T07 & T16 are no longer listed. There's a T40 shown in La Palma, but the weather there doesn't look too hot for the next few days. Didn't there used to be a T40 in Chile for a while? Perhaps they moved it.

It's very hard to keep track of these things. They seem rather disorganized.

How did you "query T68 for its info?"

I'm aware of the big stuff. I spent hours going over every system. Its the details, even something like the actual current position angle, that they haven't provided.

Sorry, I didn't explain that. I logged onto T68 & used the scope's 'Telescope Info' option at the top left of the menu. I know that they have this info in several places. I was hoping that the telescope itself would be correct, but who can be sure? From what you've learned even the Shadow doesn't know this stuff. Not a good way to run a railroad.

If the scopes were correctly updated, that would cure a lot of problems.

They just don't consider it a priority. When I talk to them they always tell me about how they are bringing exciting new features, but maybe they should get the basic stuff people have been complaining about for years done first?

And I'm kinda ticked off about making the color scopes free for people who don't pay, and difficult to use for those of us who do. I wish they had found a way to make them free without screwing over the paying customers.
