Some tips for managing minor planets
#11
Hi Greg,

I'm learning to be more patient when using the MP DB. Just let ST4 work & open another task or browse the web. Which ever thread that ST4 is using, will get there eventually.

I'm in favor of more threads, if you can implement it. ST4 rarely reports usage of more than 7% of the CPU. Usually just 4% as there are 24 threads available.

One of your instructions for repairing the MP DB, was to delete all of the OLs containing MPs, then delete the MP files, then download from the MPC again. Would I need to export the old OLs, then restore them?

TIA,

Phil S.

Your minor planet database was corrupted, likely because of being a beta tester some time ago. It cannot be fixed via observing lists. Observing lists just refer to the object in the minor planet database. If that object is gone, it will no longer refer to the correct minor planet. This is not something that normally happens, and if it does, restoring a backup is intended to be the best way to fix it.

Regarding threading: I already answered you on this. I have work to do!
Clear skies,
