Alignment Stars List?
#1
If I wanted to create a list of common alignment stars for a specific night, how would I do that? like say June 15th at 10pm?

I tried Database Powersearch and magnitude < 1.7

but I couldn't get it to select a specific night?

I'd like to make a map and print it and study them. going to a star party and want to be prepared.

thank you!

Hi vicuna,

I set up the DBPS for 2025 Jun 7 at 40°N and got this list of 22 stars:

To set a date, you need to Clk the 'Ideal Conditions' button in the 'Visibility Filters' section near the top center of the dialog. One of the options allows you to set a date as shown. Then set the magnitude limit and Search. If you don't set the 'Visual Detection Difficulty' box to 'Visible (any difficulty)', you'll get southern hemisphere stars in the list.

Is this what you're trying to do?

Hope this helps,

Phil S.

that's *exactly* what I needed. thank you so much!!!

I couldn't figure out how to do the date field.

I also narrowed it to 9pm to 3am and set it for 2.2 magnitude to get up to 22 stars to learn. (in case someone else - or future me - needs these instructions again).

I'll just manually delete a few really low ones.

ty for taking the time to help me.
