Target Selection Tool: Img. Time - markusd112 - 2023-06-06

Hello,

do you have any idea, why the Img. Time is 3 minutes for nearly all listed objects in my Target Selection List? I have played around with the prime time year constraints and checked the image system settings, but I have no idea what's the reason

Thanks
Markus

Do you have an obstructed horizon set up? It looks like maybe there is only a short window when the objects are clear of it.

Hello Greg,

yes, I am using an obstructed horizon (Textfile with direction and height in degrees, same file I am using in NINA and Stellarium).

I tried to disable it in the location settings and now all green columns are filled with "---". I don't understand, what I am doing wrong or what's going on.

Thanks and CS

Hello again,
maybe there is some problem with my horizon file:

There is a gap in the obstructed horizon line (I have set it to 8px) in the interactive atlas and some strange lines in the overhead sky view. Could that be the reason for my problem in the target list?

But when disabling obstructed horizon in the location settings it should have no effect?

@edit: I have deleted the last row in my horizon file (360 25), because it is the same than 0 25 which is in the first line. After importing it again, there is no gap any longer in the interactive atlas and in the  overhead view it looks better too:

But the problem in the target list is still there.

Thanks & CS
Markus

The horizon line does look better, but there seems to be something else going on, and I'm not sure what it is. Please try selecting Refresh List from the List Functions menu to see if things clear up. If that doesn't help, please disable the obstructed horizon. Then click on the Img. Time column heading to sort on that. You may need to click again to reverse the sort order. The idea is to bring any that have a value to the top so they will show up in a screen capture. You have a maximum airmass setting of 1.5, which may preclude a lot of objects from your latitude. Please select an object in the list that you know goes high in the sky during the dark period and send another screen capture showing its red line on the graphic at the top.

Hello Greg,
I have already tried to refresh the list and to reset all filters, but it doesn't help. When disabling the obstructed horizon in the location settings, all green columns are filled with "---". Clicking on the Img. Time column header to set desc. sort order doesn't matter, all list items have the "---" value:

When the obstr. Horizon is enabled in the location settings many items have an imaging time of 3, others are displayed with "---". There is no value greater than 3 minutes (I have clicked to the Img. Time column):

M101 for example goes very high here in the moment, I have selected it to see the red dotted line:

Marcus,

Why is the Location appearing as blank in all of your screen captures? Are you sure it's been set up correctly?

Something is very wrong. It should not be possible for the blue quality line to be above zero when the object is below the horizon, and there should be a name for your location. Please show a screen capture of your location settings.

Hi,

I wiped out my location name in the screenshots because of privacy protection (I don't want to publish my location in the internet). Here are screenshots of my location settings:

I really don't know, what I am doing wrong. Thanks for your help.

Could you try using one of the Locations that comes with SkyTools to see how that works?
