RE: New Podcast Series: Computer Side Chat - PMSchu - 2023-03-01

Maybe you should come over to the light side Owen  Big Grin. The Minor Planet Sky, always changing, it is.

I look forward to the new implementation of the calendar. Since I always have ST4v running, notifications without ST4v running aren't an issue for me.

Where would you like us to put our suggestions for new/modded features?

Phil S.

Here or in the appropriate general discussion forum.

Well you asked for it.

I think there are some suggestions in the Minor Planet Section.

A great initiative, I am definitely interested in these podcasts.

Phil,

I looked around a bit, but I didn't see anything obvious. I don't have time to read all the messages... could you maybe give me a summary or point me to specific posts?

And remember, what works best are to point out problems, or explain what you want to do or accomplish, rather than to propose solutions. Its often difficult to work backward from proposed solutions to discover the actual problem or desire, and that's the part I always need to know.

It was in the Close Approaching Asteroids>Feature Requests Thread that you started asking for features to add to ST 4.1. Here's my reply #2:

"Hi Greg,

Apparently the MPC provides element data files for all of the NEOs at Today's Epoch ±15 days. It could be useful to be able to select one of these other element data files besides the one at Today's Epoch.

Since ST4 is limited to one set of elements per 200 day interval (maybe that's not the correct way to describe it), for especially close passes could the data file from HORIZONS be read & used to provide different sets of elements during the pass?

Sorry, that's 2 wishes  [Image: wink.png].

Phil S."

That thread went for 3 pages. You said that you had some ideas already & to leave the solutions up to you.

Phil S.

I think I like ChatGPT me better.

For the record, I already understand the problem fully.

BTW Phil, in case it wasn't obvious, that's my lame idea of humor.
