Skymarks - how to delete? - yeldahtron - 2019-04-01

When star-hopping, I like to drop a skymark on the Interactive Atlas to mark the object I am seeking on the Telescope/finder simulation so I can see how I need to move my scope towards the target.  I have several questions about the skymark functionality.

1. How do you delete skymarks?  I know that the 'x' key on the Interactive Atlas drops a skymark, but how does one delete them?

2. Is there a way to drop a skymark when viewing the telescope/finder simulation?  Usually, when I want to view an object, I bring up the Telescope/Finder simulation tool from the planner, so I can get a view of the starfields.  It would be nice if one could drop a sky mark on the simulated eyepiece view and then see the target (identified by the skymark) on the Naked Eye and Finder views. Is there a way to do this?

Hello,

You can delete skymarks via the Data Manager, opened via a button on the planner tool bar. Select the supplemental data tab, and then the skymarks radio button.

I think using a skymark is an unnecessary kludge though. There are better ways to proceed, and I think the answer to the second part of your question leads us to a better way. You should not need to use the atlas for finding target objects.

The finder chart should be all you need to find any target object as long as it is set up properly. The target object can be identified in any view by enabling the target cross hairs. This will replace your skymarks. Do this for any view by opening the View Controls. Under "Display in View" check the box next to "Target Cross Hairs" and then click the Save button to make this change permanent.

Thanks!  Your recommendation to enable target cross-hairs solves the problem I was having.  And I now know how to delete unwanted skymarks, too.  Amazing and rapid support!  It's one of the many reasons why I am a huge fan of SkyTools.
